Current News
The Mets take two out of three from Philly to move back into second place in the National League East. Offensively they have been led by Edgardo Alfonzo, John Olerud and Roger Cedeno who has been filling in on a full time basis for Rickey Henderson. Rickey is expected to return this tuesday and with that one would expect Cedeno to continue to play in place of Bonilla who is also on the DL. On friday Cedeno stole four bases and as a result produced two big runs to give the Mets a huge win.

Yoshii also continued his hot pitching allowing three runs in six innings and getting another win for the Mets. Leiter on the other hand continued to slump giving up five runs in five innings. The Mets will really need him to turn things around if they are going to make the playoffs. Hershiser pitched well in his first five innings shuting down the Phils but in the sixth he was roughed up for four runs and as a result took the loss. The bullpen continues to be absolutely stellar with three strong performances in Philly only allowing two runs in ten innings.

Game Information and Around the League Segment
The Mets now begin a stretch in which they will play 22 of 25 games in New York. In this stretch the Mets really would like to push for first place in the East and at the same time they would like to seperate themselved from any would-be wildcard contenders. Three of those games will take place in Yankee stadium. The only three games outside of New York are against Pittsburgh and down the stretch the Mets will play Arizona, Boston, Toronto, Cincinnati, and Philadelphia and they will start the stretch against Milwakee. Following that stand the Mets hit the road for games against Cincinnati and St. Louis and then are home against Florida. This is certainly the time to get hot and make a statement to the rest of the league that we are the team to beat this year.

I will be out of town travelling through Italy and Southern France for about a month starting May 27 and as a result this will be my last update until June 25 when I return. I hope to come back to a first place New York Mets! All my fellow Mets fans cheer for me and keep me updated on how we are doing!
